Summary
Information on Virtual Private Network or VPN
Body
What Is It?
A VPN (Virtual Private Network) client establishes a secure, encrypted connection across the internet and into WITCC’s internal network for the purpose of remote work. Western Iowa Tech utilizes Global Protect VPN for securely connecting to the college network
Who Is Eligible to Use This Service?
Employees (Faculty, Staff, and Adjuncts) who have been issued a MacBook from the WITCC IT Department.
Where Can I Get It?
Your MacBook should come with Global Protect pre-installed and configured for use. In the event it is missing it can be installed through the
WIT Self Service
App on your Mac.
Just look for the icon titled “Global Protect” and click “Install”
How Do I Use It?
Make sure you have established an internet connection from your MacBook (cannot be on the WIT network for this to work)
Click on the Global Protect icon in the toolbar located in the top right corner of your MacBook, then click on “Connect”
You will be prompted to provide your Okta username/password, and depending upon how you setup MFA, will either receive a text or push notification in Okta (KB article for Okta) to validate your identity
Once successfully validated Global Protect will show “Connected”. You are now able to access the internal college network
